Community Service
Before we request funds from our community we want the community to know that we are taking the whole Downingtown area along with us in spirit as we represent them in the 2011 Rose Parade. To accomplish this, each student is required to perform 20 hours of community service in exchange for access to the community funds donated to the 2011 Rose Parade Fund. Community Service Boards located in each band room announce community volunteer opportunities, and students should sign up there.

Guidelines:
- Students need to complete a minimum of 20 hours of community service. No more than 5 hours of the 20 hours may include TOR fundraising events. All Community Service hours must be completed by November 1, 2010.
- Projects must benefit community organizations, non-profit or charitable organizations or needy individuals. Projects are not limited to musical themes. Most forms of volunteer work are acceptable.
- Community Service hours for another organization will not be accepted if the hours are required by that organization.
- Forms should be completed for each project and returned to the Band room in a timely manner. An account similar to the Student Fundraising account will be established and totals posted.
- Students should seek out and arrange projects for themselves. When available, opportunities requested by various organizations will be posted in the East and West Band rooms.
- Students who need assistance locating a particular organization or who are questioning if a project is acceptable should seek guidance from the committee chairs.
- If practical, a photograph or video of the project should be submitted so that the band can compile a volunteer service album or portfolio.
- Upon completion of their 20 hours of community service the student will qualify to share the community donation funds for the price reduction of their trip.
