What is the Tournament of Roses Parade?
- The Tournament of Roses Parade is the world's premier community showcase featuring bands, equestrian units, and elaborate organically designed floats.
- 2011 is the 122nd year for the Tournament of Roses Parade.
- In 2011, the parade will be viewed by an estimated 1.4 billion people in a worldwide television audience, and is broadcast by all major TV networks.
- The parade will be viewed by over one million people along the parade route.
- The band will march over seven miles including preliminary movements.
- The Tournament of Roses Association is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization and is headquartered in the Wrigley estate in Pasadena, California.
How are the bands selected?
- Along with thousands of other bands from around the world, a formal and comprehensive application was made in May 2009.
- The Parade selection committee narrows the applications to the Top 100.
- The Top 100 applications are submitted to the Tournament of Roses Music Committee.
- The Music Committee selects the Top 25 bands.
- The Top 25 bands are presented to the 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade President who selects the 15 bands that will perform in the parade.
- Notification and invitation was received from 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade President, Mr. Jeffrey L. Throop, in October 2009.
