Who is the Downingtown High School Blue & Gold Marching Band?
- The 300+ member band is comprised of the marching band members of the Downingtown High School East & West campuses and is under the direction of Co-Directors Brent Lewis and Doug Bennett.
- The band was formed in 1928 with its first performance being a parade in Downingtown as part of pre-game festivities of a DHS baseball game in the spring of that year.
- The band is comprised of members of every township and borough comprising the Downingtown Area School District.
- The Downingtown High School Blue & Gold Marching Band is one of fifteen bands selected throughout the world to participate. The band is proud to represent Chester County, the Greater Delaware and Susquehanna Valleys, the state of Pennsylvania and the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions of the United States.
- In the last twenty years, the band has been featured in The Orange Bowl Parade, two Indianapolis 500 Festival Parades, two Orlando Citrus Parades, the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade, six Miss America Pageant Parades and the Boscov"s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
- The band was also a very proud participant in the 2001 Tournament of Roses Parade. This 2011 participation will mark the 10th anniversary of this very special event.
